Getting People Out On The Lake
One of the best ways to build support for Lake Monroe is to get people out on the lake!  Thanks to generous sponsorship from Sassafras Audubon Society, we are excited to host three FREE kayak trips this summer with David Rupp of IndiGo Birding.
Our trips in July and September are specifically for community members who have never been on the lake, including kids participating in the local Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.  In August, we will host a weekday morning trip open to anyone.  There is also a waitlist option for experienced kayakers who would like to join in July or September as space allows.  Follow the links below to register.
Dine & Donate at Lennie's in July
Dine out any Tuesday in July at Lennie's (514 E Kirkwood) to support Friends of Lake Monroe!  Show the server this image and 20% of your bill goes to Friends of Lake Monroe!  The offer is good for dine-in or carry out on July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Want to make it a party?  Join FLM board members upstairs on Tuesday July 29 at 6:00pm!  No RSVP required; just drop by and say hello.
Show Your Support with FLM Shirts and Hats!
Show your support of Friends of Lake Monroe by purchasing and wearing a t-shirt or hat!  We are working with My Sports Locker in Bloomington to have items available for order through July 31st.  A portion of your purchase goes to Friends of Lake Monroe but more importantly you will help us raise awareness when you are out in the community.  Let's make our lake Drinkable, Swimmable, and Fishable!

Watershed Tour a Success
Thank you to all who joined our tour of the Lake Monroe Watershed on Saturday June 21st.  We had a great time exploring the lake and South Fork Salt Creek.  We learned a ton of interesting facts from experts at Friends of Lake Monroe, the Indiana Geological and Water Survey, the Indiana Forest Alliance, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Special thanks to tour coordinator Marion Banzhaf for her organization!

Septic Maintenance Program Launching in Jackson County
Thanks to generous sponsorship from the Raymond Foundation, we are launching a Septic Maintenance Cost-Share Program in the Jackson County portion of the Lake Monroe watershed.  This is a great way to increase awareness about septic system care and reduce the likelihood of failing systems, which can release sewage into nearby streams and ultimately into Lake Monroe. Households in the area (Freetown, Kurtz, Houston, etc.) can receive 50% off their septic pumping expenses, up to $200.  Details and an application are available at www.friendsoflakemonroe.org/septic.
We will also partner with the Jackson County Health Department to host a workshop on septic system maintenance on Thursday, August 14.  Doors open at 5:45 at St. Paul Lutheran Church-Borchers (between Freetown and Seymour).
Free pizza for those who register by August 10th at

Volunteers Needed for Monthly Shoreline Cleanups
We continue to host monthly shoreline cleanups at Paynetown State Recreation Area on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm.
Lake Monroe Day
Join us for another great night of fun to celebrate Lake Monroe on Sunday, September 14th.  This year's celebration will feature local band King Bee and the Stingers along with heavy appetizers and a cash bar.  Hear updates on the work we do to protect the lake while you eat, dance, and party with fellow lake lovers.  Tickets are $30 for members, $35 for non-members, or $220 for a table of eight.  Ticket sales coming soon!
