Watershed Sampling Blitz - Volunteer Callout

UPDATE March 24th - Event Canceled.Given the current pandemic situation, we are cancelling the Watershed Sampling Blitz that was scheduled for April 24th. We plan to continue with our fall sampling blitz (tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 18) and to add a sampling blitz in the spring of 2021. Hope you can join us!

Come join the Friends of Lake Monroe & the IU Limnology Lab during Citizen Science Month for a day in the field collecting water samples from stream sites in the Lake Monroe watershed on April 24th. No experience needed; just enthusiasm!

Volunteers will gather at designated staging locations in Monroe, Brown, and Jackson counties for a brief training before traveling with their team (2-3 people) to assigned sample locations, to collect water samples & perform on-site stream analysis. Teams will then travel back to their staging location where staff and students from the IU Limnology Lab will help prepare the samples for lab analysis. Data collected will help guide the development of a watershed management plan for Lake Monroe.

Training and snacks will be provided - please bring lunch, drinking water, and appropriate outdoor clothing.
