[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=".vc_custom_1650827852792{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}"]Friends of Lake Monroe is seeking to hire an energetic, experienced individual with a love of nature to lead our growing organization as we work to ensure that Lake Monroe provides drinkable, swimmable, and fishable water for our community.Position: Executive Director, Friends of Lake MonroeLocation: Bloomington, Indiana, the Lake Monroe watershed, and surrounding areas.Full/Part Time: Part-time initially, growing to full timeOur OrganizationEstablished in 2016, Friends of Lake Monroe, Inc., became an incorporated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2019. Its mission is to protect and enhance Lake Monroe and its watershed through science, advocacy, and public involvement, collaborating with citizens, government, and business to improve and support lake water quality. Our active board has worked to raise local awareness and support for our mission, raising over $280,00 in funding to contract a watershed coordinator who has collaborated with state and local partners to develop a state-approved watershed management plan. Our current annual budget of over $100,000 is funded by government grants, donations, private philanthropic foundation grants, donations from partner organizations and individuals. FLM is now continuing outreach to the regional community to increase awareness and appreciation of the Lake, and to mobilize partnerships and public engagement to achieve actions prioritized in the Plan.Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the President of FLM's Board of Directors, the executive director plans, leads, coordinates, and oversees all FLM operations, working in conjunction with the watershed coordinator and following the general direction of the FLM board. The executive oversees the day-to-day activities of FLM and the management of FLM's budget and assets, including fundraising, program development, project management, community outreach and engagement, and organizational development. Working with the FLM treasurer, the executive monitors and protects FLM's financial health and reports operational progress to the Board.In consultation with the Board, the executive represents FLM in the community including residents who depend on the lake, local and state government, private and corporate partners, the media, funders, members, and supporters. The executive will grow positive and productive external relationships, demonstrating professionalism and integrity.A local presence is required to enhance connection with the community. The inaugural executive position will begin as a 20-hour per week of indefinite duration. Work time is primarily during regular business hours Monday through Friday. The executive's work requires occasional evening and weekend hours, and travel in the Lake Monroe area. The potential for this position to become a 40-hour per week full-time position in the future is dependent on fundraising success.ResponsibilitiesAdministration

  • Lead and support implementation of FLM's programs and projects.
  • Develop and oversee the administration of an organizational budget, government contracts and commitments, and foundation grants.
  • Monitor and report to the Board on the financial status and progress in meeting FLM’s goals and commitments.
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to diversify and increase FLM’s revenue.
  • Maintain FLM's grant records and reports. Work with the Board Secretary to ensure maintenance of minutes and records, including those of the Board and committees. Work with the Board Treasurer to produce and file required official reports.

Fundraising

  • Raise operating and capital funding to support FLM and its mission, through the cultivation andsolicitation of individual donors, philanthropic and corporate foundations, government agenciesand partner organizations.
  • Assist with membership development via correspondence, making speeches and presentations,and special events. assisting the President and board directors in cultivating individual donors.

Outreach

  • Foster local support for FLM's objectives relative to Lake Monroe and its watershed.
  • Increase public awareness and provide membership with information of FLM’s work through FLM'snewsletter, website, press releases, social media, public speaking, and distribution of promotionalmaterials.
  • Work with the FLM board to develop and implement a strategic plan and associated work plans.

Organizational Development

  • Along with the watershed coordinator, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with government officials, groups and organizations to garner support for FLM's goals and initiatives.
  • Serve as the front-line communicator between the Board and FLM's members and supporters.
  • Monitor and report to the Board regarding the progress of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and maintain friendly professional, and productive relationships with a diverse mix of people
  • Demonstrated successful record of fundraising and managing a budget and organizational finances
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to set a clear vision, and create and thrive in a team environment
  • Articulate and enthusiastic communicator, both in writing and orally
  • Confidence in public speaking
  • Commitment to the conservation of land and water
  • Ability to work independently to set day-to-day priorities and change direction as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to set schedules and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity Working knowledge with software applications (Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word) and social media platforms
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience (or MA/MS degree and minimum of 1-year experience) in non-profit management, natural resource management, or a related field
  • Experience working with volunteers, government agencies, community groups, and conservation partners to achieve shared objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop and manage an array of projects from start to finish with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks

Salary and Benefits

  • Level of Effort: 20 hours per week.
  • Full-time salary is $45,000 to 55,000 per year full-time equivalent. Part-time compensation is a base salary of $20,000 to$23,000 per year.
  • Paid holidays: 4 hours (1 day) for each official holiday
  • Sick leave: 36 hours (9 days) per year
  • Annual leave: 60 hours (3 weeks) per year
  • Flexible work schedule within hours agreed upon with Board President
